Cowboys loose a tough one in New York!

On the road in December is tough. On the road in the north east against the division leader in December is even tougher. The Cowboys had a large task in front of them on Sunday but they had a chance to show exactly what this team is made of and if Sunday is any proof then the Cowboys defense is top notch but the offense leaves a lot to be desired.

Just as the Cowboys Giants first game went so did this one. A defensive struggle from the outset. Neither team could make any noise in the 1st quarter. The Giants struck 1st in the 2nd quarter with a 73 yard drive culminating in a 1 yard touchdown run by Brandon Jacobs. Instead answering this score the Cowboys fumbled the ball right back to the Giants on the next series setting the Giants up with a short field. Thanks to Aaron Glenn the Giants and Eli Manning were denied a score, Glenn jumped in front of the taller Burress for a much needed interception.

The Cowboys were unable to capitalize on the interception by Glenn and had to punt the ball back to the Giants. The Giants moved the ball just enough to get a late first half field goal and a 10-0 half time lead.

I'm not sure what Parcells said to the Cowboys at half time but I am sure it wasn't anything resembling the first play from scrimmage in the 2nd half. The Giants appeared to jump the snap and were in the backfield with Bledsoe as he is handing the ball off to Julius Jones. The Giants A. Pierce got a nice bounce and ran 12 yards for a quick Giants score and a 17-0 lead.

The Cowboys did answer this score with the most offense they had shown all day driving 54 yards in 10 plays but having to settle for a 34 yard Billy Cundiff field goal inching closer to the Giants at 17-3.

The teams traded punts when Eli Manning made his 2nd big mistake of the day. Once again Eli was trying to get the ball to P. Burress when in stepped Aaron Glen for the Cowboys. Glenn's second interception of the day gave the Cowboys the ball on the 7 yard line. The Cowboys wasted no time when on the next play, Bledsoe hit Terry Glenn for a 7 yard touchdown to cut the margin to one score, 17-10.

That was it, the Cowboys could get no closer even though the Giants tried to allow the Cowboys back in it. Eli Manning threw a 3rd interception but this one was called back because of interference by the Cowboys. The Giants kicker, Jay Feeley, also missed a short 33 yard field goal late that would have sealed the Cowboys fate but in the end the Giants defense was too tough for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are heading into a tough stretch of the season. The lightest opponent they have left is St. Louis in the finale and by then, it may not matter. The Cowboys have to right the ship and fast before this season becomes a woulda, coulda, shoulda season!

Injuries;

Player of the Game; Aaron Glenn had town interceptions. One set up the Cowboys only touchdown of the day and the other thwarted a sure score by the Giants.

Aaron Glenn

Other players who deserve props; Julius Jones had his best game all season. 74 yards rushing is not much to brag about but he led the Cowboys in receiving with 9 catches and 88 yards.

Jason Ferguson had his best game all season. Jason was in on 7 tackles and recorded the Cowboys only sack of the day.

Grades:
Offense - D+. Terrible! 4 turnovers will cost you almost every game. 4 for 16 on third down, 4 sacks allowed, 150 yards of passing and less than 100 on the ground. A recipe for disaster. If not for the defense, this game would have been a blow out!
Defense - B+. Only allowed 10 points. 2 huge interceptions by Aaron Glenn kept the Cowboys in the game. Needed to get more pressure on Manning but they did force Eli into his worst game this year. For the most part the handled Tiki Barber. Tiki got over 100 yards but on 30 carries and 1 big run.
Special teams - B. quit ely Matt McBriar is the best punter in the NFC. Terrance Newman had a nice punt return. Other than that, nothing special, just solid.
