The Cowboys win in Seattle thanks to some help from a rookie and some timely defense.
If not for Rookie DeMarcus Ware the Cowboys could have easily been staring at a 17-0 or worse defecit. The Cowboys defense did not seem able to stop the Seahawks on their 1st 3 possessions but Rookie DeMarcus was forced and recovered a fumble on the Seahawks 1st possession and then the intercepted a pass on the Seahawks 3rd possession, in between all of this the Seahawks were able to march down the field rather easily and score a touchdown.
The Cowboys got a field goal out of Ware's first turnover but nothing from the 2nd. The Cowboys were able to muster a much needed touchdown drive in the 2nd quarter behind Drew Bledsoe after struggling the move the ball in the 1st.
After the Cowboys defense allowed the Seahawks a touchdown they seemed to settle down and play well allowing only a 4th quarter field goal. for the rest of the game.
The Cowboys 1st team offense and defense appeared to struggle a lot early before settling but the 2nd and 3rd strings were able to play well enough for the win.
Injuries; A. Merritt ankle, Marion Barber Shoulder.
Player of the Game; DeMarcus Ware with a forced fumble, fumble recovery and an inteception kept the Cowboys in the game early is the easy Choice for player of the game.
Other players who deserve props; Patrick Crayton had a lot of catches and seemed to solidify himself as the 3rd receiver. Rookie Safety Justin Beirault was again very active on the defense. Kaylon Thornton put a lot of pressure on the QB. Jose Cortez made every kick with ease. All the RBs, Julius Jones, Anthony Thomas, and Marion Barber were able to break off some nice runs although Barber did have a problem holding on to the football.
Grades:
Offense - C; Minus the touchdown drive, the offense didn't do much at all. Some nice running plays kept this grade from being worse.
Defense - C+; Lots of pressure on the QB along with a couple of turnovers were nice to see. The Seahawks seemed able to move the ball early at will before the turnover bug hit them.
Special teams - B; Sometimes the best things from your special teams are unnoticed. Nothing special but Cortez made all of his kicks and there were no break downs in coverage.
Did you notice? Terence Newman got beat a few times in the first half. I hope this is not a replay from last seasons woes. Justin Beirault looked so much like Bill Bates that it was scary.
Next game; Saturday Night 8/27 at Texas Stadium vs the Houston Texans.
