The Cowboys win preseason finale at home vs Jacksonville.
The Cowboys 1st string offense played better than they have all preseason scoring 10 points in the 1st quarter. Hopefully all the bugs are worked out and they are ready for the season to begin.
The Cowboys 1st string defense is still ironing some things out. It appears Keith Davis will start at safety and once the rookies get a little more playing time this could be one special unit.
If it were not for Julius Jones picking up 75 yards rushing, Tyson Thompson would be the easy pick for player of the game. Tyson scored 2 Touchdowns in the secon half including the winning score with just under 3 minutes to play!
Like most fans, I am glad to see preseason come to and end. I am ready for the real season to start and hopes are high this Cowboy team will not disappoint like last seasons did.
Injuries; none
Player of the Game; No doubt Julius Jones was the player of the game picking up 75 yards rushing on only 11 carries. Julius appears ready for the season.
Other players who deserve props; Tyson Thompson rushed for 2 Touchdowns and a spot on the final 2005 roster! This kid is fast beyond anything Cowboy fans have seen at RB in a long time. Marcus Spears made his preseason debut with a sack and 2nd year player Bruce Thornton picked off a pass.
Grades:
Offense - ; B+ moved the ball well. 27 points is the highest of the preseason.
Defense - ; B-, 1st string looked strong after that, it was really hard to get a feel for how well they played. 3 sacks was a plus.
Special teams - B; Missed a makeable field goal but had some nice returns and didn't give up any long returns like last week.
Did you notice? Bledsoe played his best game of the preseason. It didn't matter which running back for the Cowboys was running, their appeared to be lots of room. Patrick Crayon is the easy choice for the #3 WR. Tyson Thompson is the real deal, at least for now!
Next game; The Cowboys will open the 2005 season in San Diego on Sept. 11.
