In the early 2000s the Dallas Cowboys could not do much but came back with a bang after they rebuilt the team. This was not a good decade in the beginning for the boys as they had four losing seasons from the first five. They then decided to rebuild and then entered players like Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Patrick Crayton, Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware, Bradie James, and others. With such a team, they were determined to make a difference in their game.
Beginning from the year 2000 and continuing till 2009, the Dallas Cowboys had 6 winning seasons with a total record of 82-78-0. Their total performance throughout the decade was:
2000: 5-11-0
2001: 5-11-0
2002: 5-11-0
2003: 10-6-0
2004: 6-10-0
2005: 9-7-0
2006: 9-7-0
2007: 13-3-0
2008: 9-7-0
2009: 11-5-0
With this, they qualified 4 times for the playoffs during the 2000s. In 2003 the 10-6 season had the Dallas Cowboys taste their first winning season since 1999. They were defeated by the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card game. In 2006 they did qualify for the playoffs but again lost their game 21-20, this time to Seattle. In 2007 the team was led by Tony Romo and this was the best season they ever played in. The Dallas Cowboys won the NFC Eastern Division title. However, they also lost the divisional playoff game to the New York Giants who were pushed on to the win the Super Bowl XLII. The Cowboys reclaimed the NFC Eastern Division title in 2009 and won their first playoff game since 1999. This time they defeated Philadelphia Eagles34-14 in the Wild Card games. They lost the divisional playoff game that they played against the Minnesota Vikings at 34-3.
In 2000 Troy Aikman and Randall Cunningham were the quarterbacks for the team. During that time, eleven different quarterbacks received playing time. When Aikman played the last season with the Dallas Cowboys, he passed for 1632 yards as well as 7 touchdowns of which Cunningham had 6 touchdowns on 849 passing yards. From 2001 to 2003, Quincy Carter played with the Dallas Cowboys. He passed for 1072 yards with 5 touchdowns in 2001. Anthony Wright, Ryan Leaf, and Clint Stoerner provided another 1336 yards as well as 9 touchdowns.
In 2004 Vinny Testaverde was the quarterback for Dallas Cowboys passing 3532 yards and 17 touchdowns. In 2005 he was taken over by Drew Bledsoe as starting quarterback and threw in 23 touchdowns. He became the 10th NFL player to cross 10, 000 yard marks. In the beginning of 1006, Drew Bledsoe was the starting quarterback and passed for 1164 yards and 7 touchdowns. Tony Romo was replaced Bledsoe midway by head coach Bill Parcells. Tony Romo completed the 2006 season passing 2903 yards and 19 touchdowns.
The Cowboys played in the Texas stadium for 37 seasons and then opened the new $1.2 billion Cowboys Stadium before the 2009 season. There’s said to be the largest facility with the most expensive and technologically advanced stadium to host the NFL. It also has the largest high definition television screen that is 160 feet wide and 72 feet high. |
