The 2005 Dallas Cowboys opponents have been announced. No time or dates set yet.
At first glance this looks like the toughest schedule in recent memory. You expect all teams to improve from year to year but actually that doesn't happen too often. It's a see-saw affect. Some teams go up, some teams go down, some teams stay the same. That being said, 2005 looks like a long and rocky road for this Cowboys team. The Cowboys will have to be on the upside of the see-saw swing if they expect to improve on a 6-10 record from 2004.
Here are the teams the Dallas Cowboys will face next season;
At Home:
N. Y. Giants; The Giants beat the Cowboys twice in 2004 and with a year under his belt, Eli Manning should be much improved. This should be a very tough couple of games for the Cowboys.
Washington Redskins; Even though the Cowboys won both matches in 2004, this looks like a tough game. Joe Gibbs has the Redskins headed in the right direction.
Philadelphia Eagles; The Eagles were a Playoff team in 2004. Unless something changes, the Eagles will continue to be the toughest games of the season for the Cowboys.
Denver Broncos; The Broncos were a Playoff team in 2004 and should be just as tough in 2005. I expect the Cowboys will have to be at their best to prevail against the Broncos.
Kansas City Chiefs; This is a possible Thanksgiving Day game. I expect the Chiefs to look more like the 2003 squad in 2005 vs the 2004 squad we saw this season. If that's the case, this will be a tough contest.
St. Louis Rams; The Rams were a Playoff team in 2004. A spotty defense and special teams should allow give the Cowboys a good chance but the Rams are still the best offensive show on earth. This will be a tough task for the Cowboys!
Arizona Cardinals; Denny Green is a winner and he had the Cardinals playing competitive in every game. Next season will be no different so I expect the Cardinals to give the Cowboys all they want.
Detroit Lions; A lot of tools on offense, but were still waiting for the Mooch plan to take a hold. Next year could be the year.
On the Road:
N. Y. Giants; On the Road in the meadowlands is always a tough visit for the Cowboys!
Washington Redskins; RFK or now FED Ex Field will prove to be a tough spot to win especially now the Joe Gibbs is back.
Philadelphia Eagles; The Vet has always proved a tough place to play and win, I expect 2005 will be no different.
Seattle Seahawks; The Seahawks were a Playoff team in 2004. Although the Cowboys beat the Seahawks in 2004, don't expect to win too many games with last second touchdown drives. This should be a tough opponent.
San Francisco 49ers; unless something happens or the 49ers are the Cinderella of the NFL in 2005, this should be one of the games the Cowboys are expected to win.
Oakland Raiders; Ditto for the Raiders, the Cowboys should win. But if memory serves me correctly, Norv Turner was a thorn in the Cowboys side while at Washington.
San Diego Chargers; The Chargers were a Playoff team in 2004. A very explosive offense, tough defense. 12-4 was no fluke, this will be a tough challenge for the Cowboys.
Carolina Panthers; I expect the Panthers to be back to their 2003 form in 2005. The Cowboys will have their hands full.
