Home > News > Cowboys trade Antonio Bryant to Cleveland for Quincy Morgan

October 19, 2004

Antonio BryantThe Cowboys announced on Tuesday, the NFL trade dead line, that they had reached a deal to send WR Antonio Bryant to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for WR Quincy Morgan.

6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other except for I kind of favor Antonio Bryant I thought the Cowboys had moved past Bryant's tirade earlier this year during training camp. I guess not. For the 1st 3 games this season, Antonio appeared to be back on track catching 14 balls and averaging almost 18 yards a catch. He has been absent from the game plan in the last 2 games, catching only 1 pass in each game, both of which the Cowboys lost. I would think the Cowboys would want to get the ball to AB a little more but what do I know.

If this is a move to give Antonio a fresh start with a new team and likely more playing time (I expect he will be the starter in Cleveland, Morgan was), I guess I am for it. I like AB and want him to reach his potential, I am just disappointed he couldn't reach it in Dallas. In return the Cowboys get WR Quincy Morgan. Quincy came into the league in 2001, from Kansas State. He has big play potential with 15 TD catches including 3 this year on only 9 catches. It's the 9 catches that have me somewhat worried. Quincy best year was 2002 when he had 56 catches for 7 TD's and just under 1000 yards. Maybe a fresh start will help both players.

It's almost a catch 22 (apologies to Emmitt). I want AB to really be a great player, I will be rooting for him every Sunday and smile each time he has a big game. But if he turns out to be one of the leagues best, the Cowboy fans will be screaming, 'WHY DID WE LET HIM GO?' And rightfully so.
