There have been two different father and son duos who have played for the Dallas Cowboys. The first was duo Jake and Craig Kupp. Jake was an all Pro Lineman who played 12 years in the NFL, 2 with the Cowboys in 1964 and 1965. Jake played the rest of his career in Atlanta, Washington and New Orleans. He spent the majority of his career in New Orleans with a struggling Saints team. Jake's son, Craig, was drafted in the 5th round by the NY Giants in the 1990 NFL draft. Craig began the 1991 season in Arizona before being released and was signed by the Cowboys in 1991 when Troy Aikman went down with a shoulder injury.
In 2004, the Cowboys signed a free agent rookie out of Texas by the name of Kalen Thornton. Kalen is the son of former Cowboys DT/DE Bruce Thornton. Bruce was drafted by the Cowboys in 1979 and played for the Cowboys from 1979 through 1981 before moving on to the St. Louis Cardinals. Kalen, although undrafted, made the Cowboys 53 man roster in 2004 as a linebacker and with experience is expected to give the Cowboys a pass rushing specialist in the next few years.
A third father son duo came close to playing for the Cowboys. Richmond Flowers II, a world class sprinter out of the University of Tennessee was drafted by the Cowboys in the 2nd round of the 1969 NFL draft.
