| 1966 Philadelphia Gum #58 Bob Hayes |
| Bob Hayes was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1964 NFL draft. Bob had already won the 100 meter dash and the 4x100 meter relay in the 1964 Olympic games before debuted on the gridiron. Once Bullet Bob Hayes stepped onto the football field, the changed the way the game was played. Defensive players could not play bump and run coverage in a man to man situation, Bob Hayes was simply too fast for any one player to cover so defenses came up with zone schemes allowing defenders to cover only a portion of the field. These zone schemes are still used today. The Bob Hayes rookie card comes from the 1966 Philadelphia Gum set. This card is nearing a half a century old and demands a premium in top condition. |
