Jay
Novacek was selected in the 6th round of the 1985
NFL draft by the Cardinals. After biding his time
in Arizona, Jay came to the Cowboys in 1990 as a Plan
B Free Agent. His impact was immediate catching a
career high 59 passes for 657 yards and 4 touchdowns.
During his 6 years in Dallas, Jay caught more passes
than any other tight end in the NFL during the same
span. He was an integral part of the Cowboys offense
the pushed Dallas to 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. Jay
caught TD passes in 2 of those Super Bowls. Jay set
a Cowboy record for catches by a tight end with 339
and was named to the Pro Bowl 5 times. It safe to
say that Jay Novacek was the best tight end the Cowboys
have ever had. That fact should be cemented soon when
he becomes the first tight end inducted into the Cowboys
Ring of Honor. Jerry, do you hear me, JERRY!?
