Lee
Roy Jordan was the Dallas Cowboys first pick in the
1963 NFL draft. Lee Roy was the inspirational leader for
the Cowboys 1st Championship teams. He anchored the Cowboys
original 'Doomsday Defense' from his middle linebacker
position. He led the Cowboys in tackles every year and
was the Cowboys all time leading tackler until recently
when Darren Woodson finally broke the mark. Keeping
in mind that Lee Roy never played in a 16 game season.
A record that had stood for 3 decades. Lee Roy was elected
the Pro Bowl 5 times and was inducted into the Dallas
Cowboys Ring of Honor in 1989. Lee Roy has been on the
Pro Football Hall of fame ballot since 1980 and has been
a member of the 15 finalist just once. Regardless of what
the writers for the Pro Football might have to say, Lee
Roy Jordan was one of the best linebackers to ever play
the game and the greatest linebacker the Dallas Cowboys
have ever had. |
