Bernie Kosar, QB from the University of Miami, was drafted in the 1st round of the 1985 NFL Supplemental draft by the Cleveland Browns. Bernie became the youngest starting QB in Browns history when he took over for an injured Gary Danielson 5 games into the 1985 season. He led the Browns to the Playoffs in 1985 and became an instant football god in Cleveland. Perhaps no Cleveland Brown player has ever been adored by more Fans than Bernie Kosar. Bernie was an elite QB in Cleveland for 9 seasons. He led the Browns to the brink of the Super Bowl twice and was always near the top of the league in QB stats. During Bernie's first 6 seasons in Cleveland, the Browns were always a playoff team and a threat to win the big game. By 1990, the Browns had changed coaches and directions. By the time Bill Bilicheck had arrived in Cleveland, Bernie's days were numbered. Belicheck brought in Vinny Testaverde and released Bernie Kosar midway through the 1993 season, much to the fans of Cleveland's dismay. The Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys signed Bernie the next day and brought him in to serve as backup to Troy Aikman. The move proved ingenious when Troy Aikman suffered a concussion on the 1st play of the 2nd half of the NFC Championship game, Bernie came in and calmly guided the Cowboys to their 2nd straight NFC Championship victory over the San Francisco 49ers. A week later the Cowboys had won back to back Super Bowls and Bernie was a well deserved World Champion. Bernie signed with the Dolphins the next season and finished his career backing up Dan Marino in Miami for 2 seasons. Bernie played 12 seasons in the NFL, made the Pro Bowl once, passed for over 23,000 yards, 124 touchdowns compared to only 87 interceptions.
