Don Meredith Dallas Cowboy football cards

Don Meredith, QB from Southern Methodist University, was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 3rd round of the 1960 NFL draft but the Dallas Cowboys had already signed Meredith to a personal Services contract. The Bears got compensatory picks but the Cowboys got Meredith. Meredith had to bide his time behind Eddie LeBaron for a few years but when he finally took the reigns he took the Cowboys to the cusp of the NFL Championship 2 times. It wasn't till after Meredith retired that the Cowboys eventually won a world title. But during those early lean years, while the Cowboys were learning how to win, it was Don Meredith who shined the brightest. He was the Cowboys 1st big star. Don played in the NFL for 9 seasons, made 3 Pro Bowls and was named NFL player of the year in 1966 by passing for 24 scores and 2,805 yards. In 104 games, Don threw 135 TDs to only 111 Interceptions and completed 50.7 of his passes. After his playing days were over he became an actor and has had many roles in TV and movies but his biggest success came during his 12 years as a commentator on ABC's Monday Night Football with Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell. I can still hear Dandy Don singing 'Turn out the Lights, the parties over!' Don Meredith passed away from a brain hemorrage at the age of 72 in December of 2010.
