Mel Renfro, Defensive Back from the University of Oregon, was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2nd round of the 1964 NFL Draft. Mel was a running back in college and played a lot as a kick returner for the Cowboys during his first few seasons and led the league his rookie season returning punts and kickoffs. Eventually coach Landry moved Mel to the defensive side of the ball and the rest as they say, is history. Mel Renfro played in 10 Pro Bowls, was elected All Pro 5 times and finished his career as the Dallas Cowboys all time leader in interceptions with 52. He also helped the Cowboys win 2 Super Bowls and 4 NFC Championships. Mel was elected into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor in 1981 and elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
