Quincy Carter, QB from the University of Georgia, was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2nd round of the 2001 NFL Draft. After the Cowboys released veteran QB Tony Banks during pre season, Quincy became the Cowboys first rookie QB to start opening day since Troy Aikman in 1989. Quincy played in about half of the Cowboys games his first 2 seasons and showed signs of greatness. When the Cowboys hired Bill Parcells to coach the Cowboys in 2003, he put Quincy back in the starting role. Quincy started every game in 2003 and led the Cowboys to their first playoff appearance in 5 years. The Cowboys appeared on the verge of becoming a power house once again when Quincy was surprisingly cut from the roster prior to the 2004 season. Rumors circulated that he had failed an NFL drug test but the Cowboys official word was they could not depend on Quincy anymore. Quincy reappeared with the Jets in 2004 and played well in relief of an injured Chad Pennington but when the Jets made the playoffs, Quincy was not on the roster. It was reported that he was in rehab. Quincy was on the verge of becoming an NFL star when his flame burned out apparently from drug use. Quincy played 4 seasons in the NFL, passing for over 6,000 yards and 32 TDs.
